Assistant Attorney General Harold K. Pickering has asked the Superior Court to order ailing businessman Luis Benavente to pay Urbano L. Cruz, a Filipino nonresident worker some $10,999. 62 representing total unpaid wages, liquidated damages and interest.

Mr. Pickering also asked the court to order Mr. Benavente to pay reasonable lawyer’s fee to the government.
Based on court documents, Mr. Benavente failed to follow the stipulated settlement agreement he signed with the Division of Labor for the payment of unpaid wages to Mr. Cruz.

The agreement states that late payment will result in a 12 percent per annum interest of his debt. Since January 1997, Mr. Benavente has been in default as he paid only a total of $1,300 to Mr. Cruz.
