One of the six defendants on the poker robbery case was freed yesterday by U.S. District Judge Alex R. Munson on a bail of $50,000 unsecured bond and was released to his father who will serve as third-party custodian.

Sidney Capelle Kani, 19, is scheduled to change plea today to admit his guilt to two counts of conspiracy to commit offense and two counts of interference with commerce by robbery.

He was charged along with five of his friends in connection with two incidents of robbery last January, one in Sun Poker and the other in LJ’s store. They fled with $2,200 cash from the two establishments after threatening and harming their cashiers.

The suspects were arrested last May by agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation and local police after an investigation was conducted on the robberies.

Sidney, who had been detained in Guam’s prison until his release yesterday, earlier was set free by the local Superior Court on a $25,000 property bond after being charged for robbery by the CNMI government.

Judge Munson agreed to release him from federal custody to his father, Isidro Kani who is a teacher at the Gregorio T. Camacho Elementary School, with several conditions, such as a dusk-to-dawn curfew, imposed on the defendant.
