A man charged in the U.S. District Court with possession of 1.4 grams of crystal methamphetamine or “ice” admitted his guilt yesterday under a plea agreement reached with the federal prosecutors.

Juan Cruz Lizama will be sentenced on October 17 following the guilty plea which came nearly a month after he was arrested by joint CNMI/Drug Enforcement Administration agents at his home.

He is currently free on bail and is expected to submit to pre-sentencing investigation to determine his punishment.

Mr. Lizama was charged with one count of possession with intent to distribute the controlled substance which was taken from his home last June 16 on a federal search warrant.

He is also facing separate charges in the local Superior Court for illegal possession of seven ounces of marijuana and 1.4 grams of “ice” found in his bedroom.

A search warrant was issued on Mr. Lizama based on the information provided to the federal and local authorities, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
