23-month-old baby dies
The twenty-three-month-old baby who was seriously injured in a car accident Sunday evening has died due to serious head injuries, police said.
Investigation showed that the vehicle driven by Pedro Takai Deleon Guerrero was heading South of Beach Road when Donald Ralph Hazelwood, 63, driver of a 1993 Nissan Pathfinder which was headed North, hit their car.
Police failed to identify the type of vehicle driven by Mr. Deleon Guerrero.
According to Rose Ada, DPS public information officer, the baby who was then being held on the lap of another passenger in Mr. Deleon Guerrero’s car was thrown off hitting the vehicle’s windshield.
Both drivers did not sustain injuries. Traffic investigators and the Attorney General’s Office are preparing separate criminal charges against Mr. Hazelwood and Mr. Deleon Guerrero.
Visiting Navy in moped accident
Eighteen-year-old Hispanic Raymond Valenzuela, a fireman recruit of the USS. Milius, and Crystal Campbell, 28, also from the same Navy ship, were injured in a moped accident 6:00 p.m. Tuesday.
Based on a police report, Mr. Valenzuela was driving the moped heading south over at Marpi pathway north of Last Command Post when he lost control of the motorcycle.
Mr. Valenzuela was believed to have been thrown off and his head hit a rock. He is still confined at the Commonwealth Health Center and was diagnosed to have suffered decompression fracture of the left temple and severe head injury.
On the other hand, Ms. Campbell complained of shoulder pains but was discharged from the hospital.
Court sentences kidnapper
Superior Court Judge Timothy H. Bellas yesterday sentenced Gilbert Borja, 25, to 10 years imprisonment, all suspended, except one year without any possibility of parole, after he pled guilty to the kidnapping charge filed against him in 1999.
Mr. Borja admitted using force in kidnapping his former girlfriend Eva Dela Cruz on May 19, 1999. He dragged Ms. Dela Cruz to a building away from her home.
Judge Bellas also ordered Mr. Borja to carry out 200 hours of community service or 10 hours work a month . Mr. Borja will pay an assessment fee of $100.
