Gov’t assisting ex-governor
Gov. Pedro P. Tenorio yesterday expressed sadness over reports on former Gov. Larry Guerrero’s health condition as he promised to extend assistance to him and his family while trying to recover in the Philippines.
He said he has been kept up-to-date on Mr. Guerrero’s condition by the CNMI Liaison Office in Manila since the ex-governor collapsed in his hotel room due to a stroke last Tuesday morning.
“We are very saddened when we heard about his illness in the Philippines. We pray for his recovery,” he told reporters when sought for his reaction.
“I understand that he underwent surgery and that he is under observation. We are contacting our office in the Philippines to appraise us on his condition. We are trying everything possible to extend our [assistance] to him,” added the governor
Mr. Guerrero, a fellow Republican who succeeded Mr. Tenorio after his firs two terms in office in the 1980’s, left for Manila last Monday to close a deal with some Filipino businessmen.
His family immediately flew to the Philippine capital upon hearing news of the stroke and the subsequent surgery performed on the former governor at the Makati Medical Center.
