THC conducts fire drills
Fire Drills were conducted at Tan Holdings Corporation premises last Thursday and Friday as part of the company’s policy to strengthen safety precautions at work sites in partnership with OSHA.
Ron Biggers, head of the Office of Safety & Health Management, stressed the importance of preparing workers for evacuation in case of a fire.
THC recently signed a safety partnership is with OSHA called “Excellence 2000”. One of the key elements of the safety partnership is training workers on emergency fire evacuation procedures.
“We have 3,000 workers and we’re doing everything possible to ensure our workers can get out of the building safely and efficiently. By conducting a fire drill, we hope to minimize any evacuation problems in case of a real fire. We are focusing on our exit designs, making sure the exit paths and corridors can handle a large number of workers hurrying out of the buildings,” Mr. Biggers said.
“We want to prevent disasters like the 1993 fire that happened in a toy factory in Thailand where 188 workers were killed primarily because the exits were not designed to handle the large number of workers exiting the building,” Mr. Biggers added.
The local fire department observed and provided commentary of the fire drills at THC.
