Before setting foot on the island, all they heard about Saipan were stories about alleged “sweatshops” and ill-treated factory workers.
Teachers, students, and school aides from the Oceanview Middle School of Guam, during a field trip to a local garment factory on island yesterday saw for themselves the real picture.

“I mostly heard about the bad working conditions here. But we’re glad to see it’s not that way at all. The facility is fully air-conditioned,” said 8th grade Oceanview Middle School teacher Betty Lagutang, a resident of Guam.

Eighth grade students who took time to survey the factory of L&T were awed at what they saw during the site visit yesterday.

“It’s really fun, exciting, and interesting,” said 13-year-old Jeny Suarez.

The students with their teachers spent the weekend on Saipan as one of the activities in their school’s Marketing Club.

The Guam delegation also spent some time touring the islands, including a visit to visit Tinian Dynasty Hotel and Casino.
