CNMI’s Saipanda Destination Program was recently honored the PATA Gold Award in the National Marketing Program – Under US$1 Million category at the 49th PATA (Pacific Asia Travel Association) Annual conference, which was held during the week of April 30th to May 4th at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center.

PATA’s Gold Awards recognizes exceptional achievement in the areas of marketing and promotion, heritage and culture, education, journalism and environmental tourism.

PATA 2000’s theme “The Future is Now” focused on key topics for companies to concentrate on in the new millennium.

Attending the event on behalf of the Marianas Visitor’s Authority was MVA Deputy Managing Director Vicky Benavente and MVA board directors, Marian Aldan-Pierce and Roberta K. Guerrero.
For 49 years, the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) Annual Conference has been the premier meeting place for travel and tourism leaders. Combining a tactical business program with lucrative networking opportunities, the PATA Annual Conference aims to provide participants with strategies for success in the upcoming millennium and is an ideal venue at which to conduct business and foster former and future relationships with industry forerunners.

PATA’s members include nearly 100 government, state and city tourism bodies, 65 airlines and cruise lines, and more than 2000 travel industry companies. In addition, more than 17,000 travel professionals belong to over 80 PATA chapters worldwide. The publicity gained from receiving the 2000 PATA Gold Award and the information acquired from the annual conference will provide MVA with valuable PR & Ad exposure and reliable data resources.
