While 142 fierce competitors will be out in the lagoon and along Beach Road on Saturday morning, there are already 61 confirmed participants for the S.O.P.H.I.A WALK to be held on the following morning, Sunday, May 21, 2000 along the scenic beach path.

This walk is for the casual walker who is fitness-minded and would like to combine social with physical.

The walk will be led by First Lady Sophie Tenorio along with two other leaders in the community, Susan Schwartz and Marian Aldan-Pierce, starting at 8:00 a.m. at the American Memorial Park intersection, and goes along Beach Road through Garapan and onto the beach path just beyond Schwartz residence, finishing at the Saipan Grand Hotel. This course is approximately 7 km of a leisurely walk, or even a brisk walk.

More local participation is encouraged to join our 61 visitors. This is a non-competitive event organized just for fun. Similar events have taken place in Hawaii with thousands participants, and Saipan would like to do the same.

Entry forms can still be picked up at JM Associates, the Ada gym or MVA. There is still time to sign up and get some exercise for the Sunday morning walk. Call 234-3533 for further information.
