A Pacific Islands Aviation aircraft carrying at least 15 passengers met a minor accident while landing on the Saipan domestic airport yesterday morning.

Emergency airport personnel were dispatched immediately after the aircraft safely landed on the domestic airport. Officials said the plane’s right tire blew off upon touching the airport runway.

None of the 15 passengers on board suffered any injury but PIA personnel and officials advised them to leave their contact details for possible medical check up.

Among those who were in the flight were Education Board Member Marja Lee Taitano and some members of the Census 2000 team from Rota, according to Ports Authority officials.

Initial reports said the aircraft was trying to land on the Saipan domestic airport from Rota at about 9:00 a.m. when its right tire blew off upon touching the runway.

The accident, which almost caused the aircraft to trip off, delayed its flight from Saipan to Tinian.
