Gov. Pedro P. Tenorio has already tasked the Attorney General’s Office to look into the request made by MTC not to resume litigation intended to eliminate its practice of charging inter-island calls in the CNMI.

He told reporters on Friday that he has forwarded to the AGO a letter from MTC General Manager David Rogers warning the Commonwealth government against pursuing the case filed recently in 1998.

Government lawyers have reportedly been planning to lodge a new lawsuit to finally force MTC to comply with the laws regarding installation of fiber optics in the CNMI following a two-year suspension to allow for negotiations between the two parties.

The lone phone domestic service provider in the CNMI wants the case dismissed, noting that it violates the terms of its agreement with the government that was forged in 1976. The accord expires in 2018.

Senators earlier have also asked Mr. Tenorio not to support the planned suit, citing efforts and investments by MTC to upgrade services on the three islands.
