The first Saipan Outdoor Physical Health Invigorating Adventure (S.O.P.H.I.A.) Friendship Walk, to take care of those people who are fitness conscious but do not wish to compete, will take place on May 21, 2000 at 8:00 a.m.

Taga Inc. is coordinating the event and said this should be the biggest non-competitive walking activity to date, a 7-kilometer walk from the American Memorial Park along the Beach Road Pathway to the Grand Hotel.

The event is called the S.O.P.H.I.A. Friendship Walk and will be led by First Lady Sophie Tenorio and Marian Pierce-Aldan. To date there are 59 confirmed entries from Japan alone, and more are expected. A similar walk in Waikiki last year involved over 5,000 walkers, half were from Japan.

The deadline for entries is May 12, 2000. There is a $20.00 entry fee which includes a T-shirt. Checks should be made payable to Taga Inc.

More information and forms can be picked up from the PDI Office at the Hafa Beach Hotel, Ada Gymnasium and JM and Associates office in Fina Sisu.
