Miller Lite 4 Person Volleyball League Coffee Care remains undefeated
Thursday night’s Miller Lite Four Person Volleyball League at the Pacific Islands Club continued with spectacular play from the eight competing teams.
In the first game of the night the Hot 98sters battled it out with G-Money and Crew. A focused Mike Walsh led the 98sters with consistent defensive saves and blistering offensive hits. Teammate Paul “Doggy Dog” Torres, remarked, “Walshie is on fire!” Ross Quinn of G-Money pleaded and argued for help from referee Jon Cramer in a fashion reminiscent of John McEnroe, but it was to no avail. The red Hot 98sters fried G-Money and Crew.
Game two showcased Tyce Mister’s Coffee Care against the struggling Misfits. Sean and Erika Frink grounded a solid Coffee Care attack, and led their team in a ruthless dismantling of the hapless Misfits.
The match of the evening occurred when team Managaha met a psyched up No Fear in a three-set nail biter. Managaha captain Akane Eda tried her best to keep her team in the match with strong defensive plays, but No Fear was too tough. Kadya Peter was covered in sand from numerous successful diving saves. While hitters Pat Pua and Hank Magofna pounded hit after hit through the Managaha defense.
Following a brief rain delay, the final game of the night was played between Dough Mauro’s Len’s Junk and the up and coming MHS Dolphins. Dolphin setter Sheryl Huertas worked hard to steady her young squad against Mauro’s relentless hitting and 100-foot high sky serves. “‘Doug’s playing like he wants to make it home in time for ER,” commented one spectator. Although the Dolphins were drowned in this match, Mauro complimented their efforts; “they made some great plays tonight. They get tougher each week.”
