Strong quake hits CNMI

A moderate earthquake measuring 6.5 on the Richter Scale hit Northern Marianas at approximately 6:12 p.m. Saturday.

According to a preliminary report of the Emergency Management Office, the earthquake was centered at about 115 statute miles southwest of Saipan, 45 statute miles west of Rota, and about 35 statute miles northwest of Guam.

The quake’s epicenter was at 13.9N 144.6E at a depth of 124.0 kilometers, the EMO said.
