Two men were charged yesterday before the Superior Court for the kidnapping, rape and brutal slaying of Hui Yang, a waitress at Tinian Dynasty Hotel & Casino whose body was found decomposing in the northern part of West Tinian Airport.

The suspects identified as Asterio F. Bajo and Juanito M. Alcantara, both Filipinos, have been accused of committing rape, first degree murder and criminal mischief in a complaint filed by the Department of Public Safety in the court.

Superior Court Judge Timothy H. Bellas did not recommend bail for Mr. Bajo, who allegedly masterminded the crime against Ms. Hui, a Chinese national. However, Mr. Alcantara was allowed to post a $100, 000 bail by the court.

Ms. Hui, also known as Cindy, was reported missing by Tinian Dynasty on Feb. 18, 2000 to the police. A search was immediately launched and two days after, her body was discovered in a forested area near the airport.

An autopsy report showed that the victim sustained a crack in her skull.

The police complaint was based on the testimony of Mr. Alcantara who first told Police Officer Peter Cepeda that he knows something about the missing Chinese girl on Feb. 21, 2000. A day before, he was arrested by the police for burglary at around 11:00 p.m..

However, before he confessed to the police, he spoke to his girlfriend identified as Eden M. Lozano to confide about what happened.

Police said on Feb. 22 Mr. Alcantara provided them with a sketch of the possible location where they left Ms. Hui, who was later found by a search team at around 5:10 a.m.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation has already joined DPS in looking for more evidence that will help in solving the case.

How it happened

It all began at about 1:00 a.m. on Feb. 18, 2000 when Mr. Alcantara, who works as a driver at Viva Poker, picked up Ms. Hui, a regular customer of that game room, at the security post entrance of Tinian Dynasty Hotel & Casino staff house. It was Mr. Alcantara’s job to pick up and drop off customers of Viva Poker.

On his way to Viva Poker, Mr. Alcantara met Mr. Bajo who asked for a ride and sat at the back with Ms. Hui. Inside the car, Mr. Bajo asked Mr. Alcantara to take him to his employer’s residence because he wanted to borrow some money.

At that point, Mr. Alcantara turned the car and drove back to Tinian Dynasty Hotel & Casino Road but even before they could reach the hotel, Mr. Bajo ordered Mr. Alcantara to turn right on the intersection and park his car behind the residence of a certain Mr. Aquiningoc.

Apparently sensing that something was wrong, Ms. Hui started crying. Mr. Alcantara said he followed Mr. Bajo’s order who then threatened to stab him with a screwdriver as he poked it to the right side of his chest.

Mr. Bajo took a black rope and told Ms. Hui that he would kill her if she shouted. He grabbed the car key as he tied the victim’s hands and at the same time ordered Mr. Alcantara to get out of the car.

Mr. Bajo then asked Mr. Alcantara to open the trunk of the car and grab some papers. The papers were gagged into Ms. Hui’s mouth.

At one point, Mr. Alcantara claimed that he tried to fight off Mr. Bajo but failed. In fact. Mr. Bajo kicked Mr. Alcantara’s groin area and almost collapsed. Mr. Bajo took advantage of the situation, tied Mr. Alcantara’s hands and stuffed his mouth with paper.

Not satisfied, he dragged Mr. Alcantara to the coconut tree and tied him there. From there, Mr. Alcantara said he witnessed how Mr. Bajo raped Ms. Hui for approximately 30 minutes.

Satisfied with what he has done, Mr. Bajo untied Mr. Alcantara, pushed him inside the trunk and kept him there for about one hour as the suspect drove around.

According to Mr. Alcantara the he heard noises when the car stopped and at that point Mr. Bajo ordered him to get out of the trunk but warned that he would kill him and his brother Dragon if he attempted to run away. Afterwards, he was pushed inside the trunk again.

Inside the trunk, he heard a sound like someone was being hit. The car then moved slowly for about three minutes. Later on, Mr. Alcantara was taken out of the trunk and later saw Mr. Bajo dragging behind him an object approximately one foot long as he walked into the forested area. He waited for about one hour. Before leaving
the place, Mr. Bajo even reminded Mr. Alcantara not to tell anybody about what he saw and even placed $300 inside his trouser’s pocket.

From there, they drove back to Mr. Aquiningoc’s residence where Mr. Bajo tied Mr. Alcantara to a coconut tree. After Mr. Bajo had left him, Mr. Alcantara then managed to free himself and returned to his staff house at around 4:00 a.m.
