What could be a better way to market the Northern Marianas College but to utilize its own radio station KRNM to advertise its programs and activities.

An advertising proposal conducted by eight students enrolled in Fundamentals of Advertising Class under Prof. Rik Villegas has recommended that the College maximize the full potential of the radio station to inform the public about the various projects carried out by NMC.

It was the first marketing plan ever made by students of NMC in 18 years. The students made the presentation to NMC officials at the Pacific Islands Club recently where they discussed how the College can effectively inform the public what it can offer and counter the negative publicities which has affected its image as a the highest learning institution on the island.

According to the students, the College must make use of the Distance Education program in providing better exposure for NMC. Video tape programs either made by a professional production agent or by a student showing how the College can help in enhancing the career opportunities for working individuals.

Various video tapes on degree programs available can be used for workshops, lectures or other functions.

But the most important thing, the students noted, is for NMC to concentrate on public relations which the College badly needs. “Many students still think that NMC is not worth attending. There is just not enough information on what NMC could do for them,” the study said.

To correct this, NMC should begin sending representatives to different schools as part of its information campaign just to let the students know what NMC has to offer. At the same time, the campaign should target parents, teachers and school administrators.

They say the best way to sell a product is let the person have a taste of it, thus, NMC should come up with a program that will allow students from various schools to visit the College classrooms and the campus.

The students can be made to attend the class of their interest to find out for themselves the quality of education in NMC, the study said. (LFR)
