There were two games played last week that ended the second round of Rocball’s pre-season practice games Starting today, the third round and last seven games of Rocball’s preseason games will start. Rocball’s final round of pre-season practice games are scheduled to be completed by Wednesday 11/17/99.

As of the beginning of the final round of pre-season practice games, fourteen teams from Marianas High School, Northern Marianas College, and players from the villages of Saipan have been registered in sixteenth annual world Rocball season of play. Once the third round of pre-season practice games are completed, no more teams will be allowed to register.

In last week’s games, Shooting Star, a team made up of MHS players, some veteran Rocball players who graduated from MHS a few years ago, and some new players representing the village of San Antonio, lost a very close three set game against a group of MHS students from various other teams who organized themselves on the spur of the moment to challenge Shooting Star for their first practice game.

Shooting Star did well in there first set of play by defeating the HodgePodge players match 16 to 7. However, In the second set MHS’s Hodge-Podge team of players came back and scunked Shooting Star 9 to O. With teams tied at 16 points each ending the second set, the Hodge-Podge players were leading 6 to 5 in the third set when time ran out giving the Hodge-Podge players a 22 to 21 victory.

More importantly, this game served as a Rocball clinic to the Shooting Stars, who were obviously well skilled in volleyball, how to play Rocball, the team net sport among other things, that invented defensive and multiple point scoring.

In last week’s second game, the Jammers, a team made up of a lot of Rocball veterans, smothered the first year team of No-Limit. Once again, this was a game where a team like No-limit made up of skilled volleyball players, was given a clinic in the difference between these two team net sports.

The Jammers defeated their rookie counterparts 58 to 23 and dominated all of Rocballs multiple point scoring techniques offensively and defensively. The Jammers scored 11 of the 14 aces, the games only 2 xunks, 4 out of the 5 kees, and 5 out of the 6 goals scored In this game. The heavy hitter of this game was Sonny John of the Jammers with 3 aces, 2 xunks and 11 kee.
