Appleby in hot water again
Nineteen-year-old Shawn Appleby is in hot water again. After escaping from the Division of Corrections last month, the convicted killer found himself in another trouble for illegal possession of unknown quantity of marijuana inside the jail.
Sources from the Department of Public Safety said the Division of Corrections is conducting an investigation how the cannabis was smuggled into the prison.
According to reports, Appleby was caught by a jail guard who was conducting rounds inside the corrections last Oct. 26. The guard said he smelled something like a burning marijuana coming from Appleby’s cell.
Police officials are eyeing administrative sanctions against Appleby which could mean denial of some of his privileges like visitation rights and access to telephone. He could also be locked down in his cell for days, sources said.
Appleby is serving a 40-year sentence for killing Korean businessman Byung Ok Suh in November 1996 after robbing the victim’s store, Chalan market. He, along with Jeronimo S. Ada and Melvin N. Basa, bolted out from prison last Oct. 10.
The third child in a family of four, Appleby has a string of criminal records, including theft, resisting arrest, assault with a dangerous weapon and criminal mischief.
