The Small Business Development Center of the Northern Marianas College is offering a new program that would allow established business owners to learn from one another’s successful strategies.

The program called Strategic Business Alliance will start on the third week of November, according to SBDC Manager Rik Villegas.

Villegas said the six-month program, which is aimed at establishing strategic alliance among business owners in the CNMI, will provide a forum for business owners to exchange ideas during monthly brainstorming sessions.

“This is an early morning gathering of business owners who discuss concerns covering the five strategic dimensions for business improvement,” Villegas said.

“At this monthly meeting, the participants will receive an half-hour training session on one of the strategic dimensions and then the rest of the time will be devoted to group discussion and brainstorming where everyone benefits from each other’s experiences,” he added.

Participation to the program, Villegas also said, will also offer a chance for business owners to establish a network.

In six different sessions, the program will discuss system approach, professional development, innovative capacity, marketing strength, operational capability and financial improvement.

“When a group is done with six months, they will have to decide whether they want to continue or they want to end it at that point,” Villegas said.

The first group will be composed of 10 established business owners , according to Villegas.

To avoid any possible clash during the course, SBDC will not allow competing companies to be in the same group.

Each group will have only one representative from a particular industry, Villegas said. (Mar-Vic Cagurangan)
