They’re wearing all sorts of fancy sunglasses: pink, flowery; round, square, punky, nerdy, and simply standard. The glaring sun has nothing to do with it. Monday is Sunglasses Day at Eucon International School.

Create. Express yourself. Show your spirit! This is what the Spirit Week at Eucon is all about.

“The Spirit Week is part of our school’s program to promote creativity. We want them to be imaginative. We’re not only concerned about the academic aspect of education. We also focus on our students’ personal development,” says Christian Wei, president of Eucon.

Each day during the celebration of Spirit Week from Oct. 18 to 22, teachers and students are required to dress up according to what is designated for the day.

Today, students and teachers come to school wearing hats. Wednesday is Career Day when students come to school garbed as doctors, soldiers, priests, lawyers or reporters.

On Thursday, they would be wearing clothes patched with badges and school colors. Friday is called Clashing Day, when teachers and students can wear clothes with the most incongruous combinations.

“This is to teach them how to follow a design using their own imaginations,” Wei said. “This is also an inter-school competition. Every class has to raise points to beat other classes.”

The program, Wei added, is designed to teach children about working as a team, and cooperating among themselves, while at the same time enhancing their individual creativity. (Mar-Vic Cagurangan)
