Public meeting to discuss PCBs
The Division of Environmental Quality would like to announce that a public meeting will be held next Thursday, Oct. 21, 1999, at Tanapag Elementary School to discuss the PCB contamination situation in the Lower Base cemetery and Tanapag village. The meeting will begin at 6:00 p.m.
Island residents will have an opportunity to raise questions or concerns they might have regarding PCBs (or polychlorinated biphenyls) during the meeting.
Officials will explain the history of the contamination, share information from recent studies, and explain the toxicology and human health risks of PCBs.
Other agencies that will have representatives at this gathering include the Army Corps of Engineers, the United States Environmental Protection Agency, the Agency for Toxic Substances and Diseases Registry, the CNMI Legislature, Attorney General’s Office, and other island agencies.
Free seminar on starting your own business
The Northern Marianas College Small Business Development Center (SBDC), in association with the Pacific Islands Small Business Development Center Network and U.S. Small Business Administration, will again offer a free workshop on how to start a business.
The workshop will be held on Oct. 29, 1999 at the Center’s Conference Room (Building T) beginning 9:00 a.m., and light refreshments will be served. Registration is scheduled at 8:30 a.m.
The purpose of the workshop is to present to entrepreneurs what services the SBDC provides, the importance of business planning, and promoting Y2K awareness.
