EMO recalls tsunami warning

The 7.6 magnitude earthquake that occurred early yesterday morning in Taiwan is not expected to generate a destructive Pacific-wide tsunami, according to the Emergency Management Office.

EMO has recalled an initial warning on tsunami threat it issued immediately after the tremor hit Taiwan. But it said in a new bulletin the Northern Marianas may experience small sea level changes.

“Based on the tsunami bulletin from the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center in Hawaii, the 7.6 magnitude earthquake that occurred at 4:30 A.M. yesterday did not generate a destructive Pacific-wide tsunami,” EMO said.

“No destructive Pacific-wide tsunami threat exists. Therefore the tsunami warning and watch are canceled as of 6:15 A.M. September 21,” it added.
