STUDENT ATHLETES OF THE MONTH
RAMSEY LEMAICH – tennis, 11 years old, competed in two tournaments in Hawaii last month, winning the Keauhou Junior Open 12 and under, 6-0, 6-1 and taking runner-up against Hawaii’s top seed of the same age group in the Wailuki Summer Junior Open. He also reached the semi-finals in another tournament in the 14 and under age group.
KANA AIKAWA – tennis, 14 years old, placed 4th in the prestigious Pacific Oceania Junior Tennis Championship after barely making the Northern Pacific Team. Matches were played in Samoa and Fiji against top qualifiers from around the region.
RUNNER-UP
Tamiko Winkfield, 14 years old, who played in the Hawaiian Invitational Waterpolo Tournament in Hawaii on two 14 and under and 16 and under teams from Hawaii. This was Tammy’s first real international competition with 113 teams from Japan, Australia and the USA and after the first game she was a starting player.
ATHLETES OF THE MONTH
TITO SANTOS BASEBALL Tito is 18 years old and the youngest player in the Summer Baseball League. He pitches for the Northern Yankees and struck out 16 batters in 9 innings. He now leads the league in SO’s at 25 in 16 2/3 inning with one earned run. Tito was also a member of the Big League Team that competed in Arizona in the Big League World Series.
AUDRA WINKFIELD AND TRACY FEGER WATERPOLO Both competed in the Hawaiian Invitational Waterpolo Tournament last month playing on 16 and under Hawaii teams.
Special recognition is order for two athletes who recently competed at the highest level of sport and both produced some of their best times.
JACK KABIRIEL, competed in the World Track and Field Championships in Seville, Spain to run his best in 800m.
XENAVEE PANGELINAN, competed in the Pan Pacific Swimming Championships in Sydney, Australia, swimming in four events and improving her time in two events breaking one national record in the 200 Individual Medley.
