POWER OUTAGE
As the Commonwealth Utilities Corporation continues to rebuild the electrical system from Chalan Kanoa to Susupe, two power outages are required this Wednesday and Thursday.
On Aug. 11, CUC crew will disconnect the electrical service at the W.S. Reyes Elementary School, reconnecting it to a separate source of power. This will allow the crew to work on the Chalan Kanoa power project throughout the school year without disrupting electricity during school hours.
The power outage at the W.S. Reyes School will happen just after school tomorrow at 3:30 pm and electricity will be restored at 5:30 pm. The power will be out from the Cabrera property, at Pacific World Wholesale on As Lito Road, heading south to the school, all the way to the original Joeten Grocery Store.
The next day, repairmen will return to Chalan Kanoa to work within the housing area about three blocks east of the W.S. Reyes Elementary School to two blocks north — a total of about 50 lots. All located around the original Joeten Grocery Store.
The power outage on Thursday will be from 8:00 am through 4:00 pm — eight hours. That is for the houses to the west of the W.S. Reyes School.
Customers may recall that the Chalan Kanoa Electrical Project is being paid via federal Capital Improvement Project funds. The goal of the project is to rebuild the entire village power system, removing old power poles from within property lines to only the rights of way.
New utility poles are being installed, new high voltages electrical lines are being wired and new transformers are going up. The project will cost over $2 million. When completed, customers will notice that their appliances operate better as the voltage will be improved. The entire system will also be much stronger during the storm system.
