Far East champion, the CNMI All-Star team, heads today to Tucson, Arizona to compete in the 1999 Big League Baseball World Series championship to be held from Aug. 8 to 14.

The team, lead by Tito Santos, Jr., Jerome Delos Santos, Jester Garcia and Robert Bansil, will see action on Aug. 9 to play against Latin America. The next game will be on Aug. 10 and 11 against Canada and Europe, respectively.

This will be the third time for the local Big League team, which is managed by Tino Camacho and coached by Frankie Torres and Jerome Salas, to compete in the World Series.

The CNMI team beat last month Palau’s All-Star in the 1999 Far East Big League tournament held in Koror to retain the crown as division champion and to be in the World series for the third straight year.

This year’s championships will be held outside the Floyd Hull Stadium in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, where the game has been played for the past 30 years.
