Hostage-takers to
be sentenced today

Four inmates who participated in the hostage-taking incident at the jail last March will be sentenced by the federal court today.

US District Court Judge Alex Munson is set to read the sentence for Ben Ruchen, Sheldon Yano, Vicente Aldan, and Edwin Blas, who earlier pled guilty to hostage taking , among other federal charges.

The four were among the inmates who took part in the 14-hour prison takeover that rocked Saipan in the morning of March 7.

They were led by William Sablan, who was sentenced to 21 years of imprisonment last month.

They ransacked the security locker and took a Smith&Wesson gun they fired during the siege.

They were pacified eventually in response to pleadings from their families. (MCM)
