POWER OUTAGE
Today: Chalan Kanoa
Aug. 6: Dandan, Koblerville, Airport
Aug. 13: Northern Marianas College
The Commonwealth Utilities Corp. yesterday announced that power will be cut off in Chalan Kanoa to allow its crew to continue with the installation of new and larger high voltage wires and transformers from Chalan Kanoa to San Jose.
Beginning 8:00 am, the power will be turned off in most of CK.
About 75 customers will not have power today in CK. Customers who live three blocks east of W.S. Reyes Elementary School will experience a two-hour power outage.
Power will be out for eight hours to those who live farther to the east of the school, near Stella’s Market, Tina’s Market and throughout the Tun Doi Road.
August 6th, Friday
Customers on Feeder 6 will experience two short power outages –– 12:30 pm to 12: 45 pm and from 4:30 pm to 4:45 pm –– to give way to the installation of a new switch at the airport intersection that can isolate electrical flow to neighborhoods during storms or other emergency power outages.
In order to minimize the power outage, crews will turn off the power for the entire Feeder 6, southern Saipan area, for just a few minutes, to isolate the area in Dandan. Next, the crew will restore electricity to the majority of Feeder 6 customers.
Customers in Dandan, down the Airport Road area and Koblerville will not have electricity from 12:30 pm through 4:30 pm. Once the switch gear is installed, the entire Feeder 6 will be turned off for just a few minutes as crew integrate the system. All power will be restored by 4:45 pm.
August 13th, Friday
The Northern Marianas College concludes summer classes on Aug. 11th. The Fall semester begins on Aug. 16th. With only five days in between classes, the CUC will complete an electrical improvement project on Aug. 13th.
Two utility poles will be replaced and other lateral high voltage wire improvements will be installed. The power outage at the NMC campus area will be from 12:30 pm to 4:00 pm.
