Jack Sablan is new NMC VP
The Board of Regents has adopted the recommendation made by the Personnel Committee naming Jack Sablan as the new vice president of the Northern Marianas College.
His appointment came after the NMC administration completed the search for the new vice president in which his candidacy was highly favored.
“He is highly recommended for the position,” personnel committee chairman Helen Abayare informed the board during a meeting Friday.
Prior to his appointment, Sablan also held the same post along with the other former vice presidents Tee Abraham and Barbara Moir. He was vice president for support services.
Together with the selection for the lone vice president, the board likewise named Moir as the new dean for Instruction and Marlin Van DerVeen as the director for Cooperative Research Extension and Educational Services.
Moir earlier stepped down as the vice president for Instruction to give way for the selection process.
It was not certain though if Abraham, who was the vice president for Administration, endorsed her candidacy for the second in command post. The committee did not name the other candidates for the vice presidency. However, according to reports Abraham did not apply for the vacant post.
In the same meeting, the Board also gave the college administration the green light to fill in the teaching vacancies for the fall semester.
Eleven teaching vacancies were identified including instructors for Science, Education, Math, Nursing, Computer, Business and Accounting, Health and Physical Education, two College Lab School Teachers and librarians.
However, recruitment for the directorship positions for the Business Development Center, Planning and Assessment, Student Advancement and other managerial positions will be delayed pending audit of such positions.
