Mt. Carmel wins in Japan arts fest
The Mount Carmel School has twice earned international recognition on arts after entries prepared by its students were judged as winners in Kanagawa, Japan.
According to art teacher Tina Cepeda, over 40,000 entries were sent to Japan from all over the globe and Mount Carmel clinched the silver award. The school was also given special award.
This feat is a recognition for the long years which the school has invested on arts. Mount Carmel took part on this international arts competition in Japan for two years now.
Cepeda said arts is part of the daily curriculum for students from grades 1 to 12. For the lower level, students would start with the basics leading to the appreciation of color and forms. By the time they reached high school, they are now ready to take up the brush for oil painting and mixed media.
This week, the school has marked its 7th Annual Art Exhibit where some 200 pieces are up for display. It gathers both two and three dimensional art work of students from elementary to the high school level.
But despite these years of preparing students to cultivate and hone their talent in arts, no single Mount Carmel graduate has pursued Fine Arts in college.
“This is our frustration,” Cepeda said, adding that many have shown great potentials on the field of arts. However, students would still opt to take up business courses over fine arts and related profession.
