GOP elects new officers
The Republican Party on Tuesday unveiled a new set of officers that will steer the direction of GOP in the November mid-term elections, as Ben Fitial stepped down as party chairman to prepare for his political comeback.
The meeting was called ahead of the polls to strengthen the party’s organizational structure and prepare the agenda for the coming elections, according to Fitial, who is running for congressman for Precint 3.
The former House speaker said Frank Dlg. Camacho, ex-representative for Precint 4 and party vice chairman, was elected head of GOP.
Other officers are Irene Macaranas Tupaz, first vice chairperson; Frank M. Rabauliman, second vice chairman; Keiko Rosario, secretary; and Marian Tudela, treasurer.
Tudela succeeded Eloy Inos, who is seeking a seat in the House of Representatives for Precint 1.
“The purpose of this meeting was just to elect officers and formally open the door for those who are interested in running in the November elections,” Fitial said in an interview.
The mid-term election is expected to be tight with the entry of candidates to be fielded by the Reform Party, a new political organization established by former Gov. Froilan C. Tenorio, a former Democrat.
Tenorio previously said the new party will field a full slate for Saipan, but has yet o decide for Rota and Tinian.
