May 1 is deadline for filing of financial interests

The Office of the Public Auditor is reminding all Commonwealth public officials and employees that the deadline for the filing of financial interests for calendar year 1998 in on May 1, 1999.

According to OPA, elected officials, appointees to various positions in the three branches of government, even on acting capacity, as well as employees who received additional compensation last year for professional services or as an independent contractor, are required to submit financial statements pursuant to Section 8511(a) of the Government Ethics Code Act of 1992.

Failure to comply with the financial disclosure requirements is subject to penalties, including a $10 a day assessment for periods of delinquency, OPA warned.

Forms are available at the OPA office on the second floor of the J.E. Tenorio Building in Gualo Rai.
