In a move to impose strict health measures, the Bureau of Environmental Health has ordered the closure of four restaurants due to serious violations of health and sanitation standards.

The establishments are Summer Restaurant, Flower King Karaoke, Hollywood Karaoke and Diamond Karaoke — all located in Garapan, the island’s commercial area.

Also, the bureau has given the following grades to various eating establishments: Grade A (establishments with not more than 10 demerits) MCC Employee Cafeteria; Grade B (not more than 20 demerits), Midnight Massage & Karaoke, Chinen Ice & Candy Manufacturing, San Vicente School Cafeteria, Mirage Employee Cafeteria, Winner’s
Employee Cafeteria and James Barbecue Stand; Grade C (not more than 40 demerits), Green Star Cafe, Sackiko Karaoke, Shanghai Night Club.

Earlier Public Safety Commissioner Charles Ingram has offered assistance to the Department of Health in enforcing the closure order for various clubs and restaurants that have violated the health and sanitation regulations.

Ingram has asked for the list of establishments from Health Secretary Kevin Joe Villagomez recently.

Last week, Ingram said police officers helped public health officials in inspecting a club in Garapan when management blocked them from entering the premises.

“We will arrest anyone who will obstruct the inspection of establishments carried out by the department,” said Ingram.

The health chief, on the other hand, has vowed to intensify the health inspections to ensure that the people are served clean food. The regular visits by health officials revealed that a number of restaurants are not complying with the regulations.
