Consistency in Inconsistency, NMI forte?

The legislature has patiently worked with the administration on a fancy measure known as the “free trade zone”. This is the piece of legislation upon which they lay their lives at the lap of prospective investors. I view such measure a “feel good” legislation analagous to the millions of fish out in the open waters.

We keep our fingers crossed that some would bite the bait we’ve hurled in grand fashion. Little do we know that the bait we’re using is wrong! Furthermore, we don’t even know whether the school of fish behind our boat have eaten live bait swimming around them. Thus, the refusal to fall for our commercial bait. But I must give credit to the sponsors of the measure. At least, they are anxious to do something concrete after our hits and misses on a redundant economic term we’ve used to death in dull speeches, “diversification”.

At the same time, there’s a proposed policy to place a cap on guest workers. This, friends, runs diametrically contrary to the very essence of the free enterprise system even under the proposed economic free trade zone. Why would you want to place a cap on guest workers while considering a measure that may break into a thriving economic sector requiring more warm bodies from abroad? What if, upon implementation of such policy, several industries established their assembly lines here requiring a minimum of 3,000-5,000 guest workers each? Do I note a consistency in inconsistency here?

It seems you’ve fallen prey to the paper tiger bashing by our detractors as to forget right and left hand coordination. Your fear is superficial at best, out of focus at worst, for you have allowed your better judgment to be overwhelmed by our detractors. Such must not be allowed for in the end, our detractors won’t be knocking on our doors to offer assistance. We’ve seen how Interior has treated our economic crisis: It’s far more interested in funding an economic summit rather than offer economically proven alternatives to get the NMI out of this mess.

In short, let’s do what’s right to encourage wealth and jobs creation. After all, you took an oath to make life better and brighter for posterity. You’re answerable to each of them and you’re not required to bow to the whims of Interior and cabal.

Helping PSS muddle through

Perhaps by necessity, students have been asked to bring their own drinking water and toilet tissue from home. I was rather disturbed to hear this from my young niece. It may be a good measure, but one that need not burden kids as they go between classes. Their teachers would probably go through the day with an earful of stolen water jugs and rolls of toilet tissue.

I think this instruction is best imposed on all government workers. You bring your own water and toilet tissue. At the same time, let’s contribute to the welfare of our school kids by buying these two necessities for them every payday. I mean, how many times do I enter a government toilet facility to see a whole roll of toilet tissue dumped into the urinal or toilet bowl. It’s a waste drone government employees can’t afford these days. So rather than turning it into waste, let’s give them to the schools.

After all, we all want the best for our young pupils. Let’s show some care from mom and dad. Hell, if my kid ever asked that he too brings his own water and toilet tissue, I’ll donate a month’s worth of both items to his class. They are our kids. Let’s be proactive and do our share of responsibility. Biba grammar school kids!
