Luis Camacho, the last of the 8 inmates who remained at large since he bolted out of the Division of Correction last week, was picked by police officers Sunday night up at Navy Hill.

He is the oldest among the convicts who escaped from prison and is known as a child molester. He was recently charged with sexually abusing three children.

Past 7 p.m. last Sunday, the Department of Public Safety received a call informing the police that Camacho was seen near the Maturana, the House of Prayer, in Navy Hill.

Police officers responded to the call and apprehended the escaped convict near the site. There was no reported incident while the arrest was made, according to DPS spokesperson Rose Ada.

Following his arrest, DPS ended its island-wide manhunt while the in-house investigation over the security breakdown at DOC continues. Earlier reports said the inmates passed through the backside section where a cut of about four inches wide was discovered in the primary fence. A portion of the second fence was raised from the ground.

Interviews are also conducted among the escapees to shed light in the investigation.

Meanwhile, the seven escaped convicts who earlier returned to DOC, faced the court yesterday on charges of escape. They will serve two to three years in prison, in addition to the first sentence.

Two of the inmates, Vicente Aldan Jr. and William Sablan, have decided to represent themselves in court, Ada said.
