Officials of the Northern Marianas College will convene its own public hearing in assessing its role in the CNMI scheduled at the Multi-Purpose Center in Susupe Friday next week, according to a latest advisory.

The public will also hear the State of the College Address, reportedly the first for NMC since it was established in 1981.

However, this is the second of the series of its efforts to seek feedback from the public. Prior to this hearing, NMC also sent out questionnaires to the private sector in preparation for the strategic master plan.

Interviews were likewise conducted. Data gathered from this survey will guide its academic mission and vision for the next five years. It will also be forwarded to the Western Association of School and Colleges.

Together with members of the Board of Regents, NMC President Agnes McPhetres will personally hear inputs from the community in trying to attune its programs based on their needs.

This forum will also convince members of the legislature on whether enough appropriation was extended to the college or its reduced budget did jeopardize its academic mission.

In an earlier interview, McPhetres said since it will present a comprehensive picture on where the school is heading she expressed optimism that the legislature will listen to their needs.

Following the oversight hearing conducted by the Committee on Health, Education and Welfare about NMC’s financial affairs, sources said the college’s own forum is also designed to regain the people’s confidencem in meeting its academic mission in the CNMI.
