One dies as car rams tree
A Filipino cook working at Kan Pacific Inc. or Marianas Resort died yesterday morning when the car he was driving fell into a ditch after veering off the road and hitting a flame tree near Rudolpho’s in Sadog Tasi.
The name of the victim is being withheld pending notification of his next of kin, according to Rose Ada, public information officer.
The Department of Public Safety received the call at 10:59 a.m. from a passerby who saw the victim’s body trapped inside the vehicle.
Preliminary reports said the car, described as a 1992 4-door Toyota Tercel, was heading south when it veered off the roadway near the 1,000 curve, struck a flame tree, fell into a ditch and landed on its top.
Officers from the Boating Safety Section rushed the man to the hospital where he was pronounced dead at 12:25 p.m.
Ada said the victim sustained severe injuries including an open skull, broken arms and legs and possible abdominal bleeding.
An autopsy will be conducted to determine the exact cause of his death.
DPS is currently investigating the case. The incident is the eighth traffic fatality for this year.
Meanwhile, police are looking for a Chinese national, believed to be the last registered owner of the vehicle that struck 56-year-old Francisco Manalo Cabrera while jogging along San Roque early Sunday morning.
The man was identified as Guan Gzhe Piao and is wanted by the police for questioning.
His name appeared to be the owner of the Hyundai Elantra bearing license plate ACH 402.
DPS is asking the public to report Piao’s whereabouts at 664-9001. All calls will be kept confidential.
Cabrera, an employee of the Department of Public Works was jogging at the time he was hit by the vehicle. The operator immediately fled the scene.
He was rushed to the hospital but was pronounced dead at 6:26 a.m.
According to the report, Cabrera suffered massive skull fracture, bruises and contusion on his stomach area and scrapes in both his arms and knees.
