9 vie for boys U12 singles crown

Nine will contest the boys U12 singles title in the 6th Tan Holdings Tennis Classic that will kick off today at three different venues.

The top-ranked Sean Lee, winner of last year’s U10 singles event, is among the contenders for the U12 championship and begins his title bid this afternoon with a match against the winner of the Daniel Kang-Jamin Elliot pairing. Kang and Elliot collide at 8am today at Kanoa Resort ‘s Court 1 with the victor facing Lee at 1pm over at Fiesta Resort & Spa Saipan’s Court 1.

Joining Lee, Elliot, and Kang at the upper half of the draw are Ji Min Woo and Allan Lee, who will square off in an 11am match today at Kanoa Court 1.

At the lower half of the bracket, the second-ranked Aditya Rai also plays today against Brian Kim at 8am at Kanoa Court 2, while Jeffrey Seo takes on Eugene Park in a 9:30am match in the same court.

The lower bracket semis game in the division will also take place at Kanoa this Saturday, while the semis duel at the upper bracket will be held at Fiesta. The finals set for Sunday at 9:30am is set at Fiesta, too.

In the doubles, the round-robin matches are slated at Hyatt Regency Saipan courts and Fiesta.

Sean Lee and Rai will challenge Kim and Seo in a 7pm match at Fiesta Court 1 tonight, while tomorrow the latter pair will take on Park and Allan Lee also at Fiesta at 1pm. Over at Hyatt Court 2, Park and Allan Lee will battle Rai and Sean Lee in an 11:30am tiff this Sunday.

Meanwhile, games in the boys U10 singles also starts today.

Jae Yun Jun and Anthony Gregoire kick off the action in the division as they duel in an 8am match at Fiesta Court 1. Over at Kanoa at 11am, Eu Bin Park meets Seung Jin Park. Kang and Woo are also entered in the boys U10 singles and drew byes in Friday’s opener. Woo will face the winner of the Jun-Gregoire game tomorrow at 1pm at Hyatt Court 1, while Kang will be paired either against Eu Bin or Seung Jin at the same time at Hyatt Court 2.

The opening week of the Tan Holdings Classic will only feature competition in the juniors singles and doubles events, while the second and final week is an open field. Players wishing to compete in Week 2 have only until today to register.
