9 host families needed for homestay program
Japan trip set for October
The Saipan Mayor’s Office is seeking at least nine families to host students coming from Japan.
Some 17 students from the International Youth Association of Japan Kokusai Seishonen Kenshu Kyokai group from Tokyo will be arriving on July 28 and will need families willing to host them.
Joann Aquino, acting director of operations for the Saipan Mayor’s Office, said they will be conducting outdoor activities for the KSKK group during their visit to Saipan.
The students will arrive July 28 and will leave Aug. 4.
The 17 students include 10 boys and seven girls and are escorted by one chaperone.
According to the KSKK website, the homestay program allows Japanese students to interact with different cultures and enhance their knowledge of the cultures of the place they are visiting.
According to the website, 90 percent of their students traveling overseas for homestay programs are either first-time travelers or can hardly speak English.
The KSKK was founded in 1973 and has contributed to the promotion of friendly exchanges between countries.
In related news, the KSKK group is hosting a Japan trip this October and applications can be picked up at the Mayor’s Office.
Aquino said that applications are due on the first week of September.
“The airfare is still not determined,” Aquino said.
Students will arrive at the Narita airport in Japan on Oct. 9. They will have a schedule of activities everyday until their departure on Oct. 15.
On a side note, students will be able to visit Tokyo Disneyland but this will require payment.
For more details, interested families can pick up homestay applications at the Saipan Mayor’s Office at the Ladera Center on Beach Road or call Aquino at 234-6208, 234-6280, 235-7304.
