88 join 5th Annual Hope Run
The Seventh Day Adventist School’s 5th Annual Hope Run held early this month lured 88 runners.
Derek Leung led the finishers of the 5K course that started at the Garapan Fishing Base and ended in Susupe across the Superior Court.
Leung completed the race in 20:56 and was awarded the top prize in the 21 and over category. Joining him in the Top 10 were Ronald Villafria (21:41), Si Young Heo (22:17), Tamio Nishikido ( 22:45), Joshua Berger (23:56), Thai Nguyen (24:40), Tats Chubachi (25:03), John Sario (25:09), Rolly Verzon (25:32), and Suzy Kindel (25:43).
In the two other age group categories—U10 and 11 to 20—only the Top 5 finishers were recognized. Wataru Tajima (28:41) ruled the 11 to 20 age group, beating Jon Lacorte (36:27), Seong Bin Heo (36:48), Alex Lee (38:02), and Joshua Qiu (39:14). In the U10 division, the top finisher was Alliyah Fernandez (37:44), followed by Sydney Lim (38:35), Jason Kim (41:27), Soo Choi (43:14), and Marielle Lopez ( 43:15).
The race was held on May 4 and was a fundraiser with proceeds going to the Hope Run Scholarship Fund. This scholarship helps SDA School students who are in need of financial assistance. Virle Gayatin coordinated the race.
The organizing school would like to thank its staff and the students and their parents for their support with the ticket sales. “A special thanks to our top ticket-selling student, Javon Gersonde, who sold 68 tickets. Thank you also to the SDA church members who helped with first aid and communications, as well as to all the donors and runners who joined in the event.
