80 students explore potential careers
Eighty high school students took part Wednesday in the Saipan Chamber of Commerce’s career exploration day to look at possible career paths they could pursue after graduation.
The students came from Marianas High School, Grace Christian Academy, Kagman High School, Marianas Baptist Academy, and Mt. Carmel School.
According to Chamber executive director Jill Arenovski, the students gained many insights on possible and much need careers on the island.
“We try to match them as best we can with the career possibilities listed on their applications, so that they get mentored in a business that they have an interest in,” she said.
Although the career exploration day does not necessarily lead to employment in anticipation of the reduction and transition of the CW workforce, it could open the eyes of future workers to what lies ahead after high school graduation.
“Even those that intend to further their education may need employment to get by financially. This also connects them with a business manager that may be helpful to them as a reference in the future. We ask every year if these events are helpful and we get great feedback. These students need to know that they are needed by the business community, and that they can find a place to fit their talents. The Chamber is very proud to do its part in connecting these students with local businesses, and we are very grateful to the Chamber businesses that participated,” said Arenovski.
Among the businesses that participated were DFS-T Galleria, Friends First Marketing, MarPac, Delta Management Corp., Island Training Solutions, First Hawaiian Bank, Mount Carmel School, IT&E, Dickerson & Quinn, No Ka Oi, Pacifica Insurance, Burger Comer Magliari, Hard Rock Café, MITA Travel, SDA School, SDA Clinic, Saipan Tribune, Fiesta Resort & Spa Saipan, Commonwealth Development Authority, Northern Marianas College, Pacific Islands Club, N15, CTSI, and I Love Saipan.
