The CNMI has been awarded a total of $785,381 in fiscal year 2019 grant funding through the Office of Insular Affairs’ Energizing Insular Community program.
Assistant Secretary for Insular and International Affairs Doug Domenech told Gov. Ralph DLG Torres about the grant award last Thursday.
The EIC funding will be awarded to the Office of the Governor for the following high priority energy projects within the Commonwealth:
$222,988 for the Commonwealth Utilities Corp.’s Battery Energy Storage System Feasibility Study for Rota.
$160,000 for the Rota Aquaponics Program Photovoltaic System.
$152,393 for the CNMI Strategic Energy Plan Update.
$250,000 for Photovoltaic Lighting for Tinian Public Buildings and Pathways.
“Energy projects are a critical part of our administration’s goals towards energy efficiency on all three islands, and we are very grateful to [Domenech] and OIA for funding these priorities. The projects will help improve the lives of residents on Rota and Tinian, while also allowing us to plan for bigger energy priorities in the future. Lt. Gov. [Arnold I.] Palacios and I thank our Office of Grants Management Team for their hard work, [Rota Mayor] Efraim Atalig and his team, and [Tinian Mayor] of Edwin P. Aldan and his team for their coordination on these projects,” said Torres. (PR)
