A total of 72 students graduated Tuesday night with globally recognized certificates to beef up their qualifications for future job opportunities.

The students received certificates signifying their completion of the Fall 2016 Hotel and Hospitality Certification Course offered by Latte Training Academy in partnership with American Hotel and Lodging Educational Institute and Island Training Solutions.

Jim Arenovski, owner of Island Training Solutions, said the program’s graduates are more likely to land a job before even graduating from high school.

“These people spent nine extra hours in their week. Most of these kids are graduating. About 30 percent of these graduates already have jobs; they were hired as they were doing their job-shadowing,” said Arenovski.

The courses are taken while the student attends regular school. They set aside nine hours per week to focus on the certification course.

“It’s a good sign for [employers], these graduates are willing to put in an extra effort,” said Arenovski.

Latte Training Academy executive director Arielle Buyum said the new graduates took time away from their friends “and all the activities so important to a young high school student simply to focus on preparing themselves for their future.”

“These students have demonstrated that they have the competencies and skills to effectively contribute to our hotel and hospitality industry as evidenced by their attainment of a globally recognized certification,” she added.

Jeremy Manansala of Saipan Southern high School, 16, said: “I took food and beverage because it was my favorite. I really learned a lot from that course and I enjoyed my job shadowing,.”

Manansala job-shadowed at the Magellan Restaurant of Pacific Islands Club Saipan and expressed interest in working there.

“This is a good opportunity for me and for other students as well for a start in this industry,” he added.
