The Saipan Mayor’s Office needs 65-70 host families for this November’s cultural exchange and homestay program.

According to the Saipan Mayor’s Office office executive assistant Yuki Kishimoto, 131 students plus 12 teachers will be arriving from Hiroshima Johoku Gakuen.

Johoku is an all-boys school with juniors and seniors in high school and serves over 1,300students. Johoku also has sister schools in Korea, Australia, and England that coordinate to have cultural and home exchange programs over the course of the school year.

Kishimoto said that the students and teachers will be arriving on Nov. 17 and will be leaving Nov 21. Two students will be assigned to each host family and all expenses will be covered. Ikuo Yoshizawa of the Saipan Business and Language Institute will be handling the program.

Kishimoto said that they are also looking for four interested people who are willing to give a speech to the high school students on Nov. 19 for career education.

“Someone who can talk about culture of Saipan, history of war on Saipan, education of the CNMI, and current issues of CNMI. The speech can be in English because there will be a translator,” she said.

Kishimoto noted that they the students and teachers will be planning to make a welcoming party upon arrival and a farewell party before departing.

“The time and location is still pending but Saipan Southern High School agreed to help during the program. They will also be visiting SSHS for the friendship program on the second day of their visit,” Kishimoto said.
