The Saipan Mayor’s Office is still looking for at least 70 host families for this November’s cultural exchange and homestay program.

According to Saipan Mayor’s Office executive assistant Yuki Kishimoto, 131 students plus 12 teachers will be arriving from Hiroshima Johoku Gakuen.

Johoku is an all-boys school with juniors and seniors in high school and serves over 1,300 students. It also has sister schools in Korea, Australia, and England with whom it has cultural and home exchange programs.

Kishimoto said the students and teachers will be arriving on Nov. 17 at 5:30pm and will be leaving on Nov. 21 at 7am. This group will be treated to a welcoming party at the Saipan Southern High School where they will interact with local students. There will be sightseeing trips so they would learn about the CNMI’s history and they will also have a chance to visit Managaha Island.

Students will be picked up from the airport by the host family, who will also be required to drop the students at the assembly point, the Hafadai Beach Hotel, and picked up later in the afternoon at the mayor’s office.

Two to three students will be assigned to each host family and all expenses will be covered. Ikuo Yoshizawa of the Saipan Business and Language Institute will be handling the program.

For more information on the homestay program, call the Saipan Mayor’s Office at 234-6208 or visit its office at the second floor of the Ladera Building along Beach Road in Oleai.
