More than 6K lbs of trash collected in 6 months
From January to July this year, PDM Promoters, in collaboration with Kinpachi Restaurant staff and Saipan Awaodori Team members, has already collected more than 6,000 lbs of trash from the Garapan tourist district.
On Monday alone last week, PDM members and 35 Saipan Awaodori dancers hauled 800 lbs of garbage from the Paseo de Marianas, Coral Street Ave., and the American Memorial Park vicinity.

“Since it is summer, all members were able to join us and after the cleanup we celebrated the 16th birthday of one of the Saipan Awaodori members, Nyla Sablan,” said PDM Promoters coordinator Sonia Siwa said.
PDM Promoters and other participating groups have been doing the once-a-month cleanup in the Garapan area for some years now.
In January this year, over 800 lbs of trash was collected. This went down to 240 lbs in February. In March, PDM Promoters was joined by the Bureau of Environmental and Coastal Quality for the cleanup and over 1,700 lbs of trash was collected. May’s cleanup yielded 820 lbs, while June saw 560 lbs of trash collected.
The group targets areas and buildings within the Paseo de Marianas, the front of Fiesta Resort & Spa Saipan, Hyatt Regency Saipan, Micro Beach Road near American Memorial Park, and Beach Road.
The group focuses on clearing drainages, picking up cigarette butts and other trash, cutting and trimming bushes, clearing the Paseo of leaves, and sweeping dead leaves and plants.
