$6K bail set for man who allegedly hit cop
The CNMI Superior Court has imposed a $6,000 cash bail on a man who was arrested last Oct. 31, 2021, for allegedly hitting a Department of Public Safety police officer with a piece of wood.
Superior Court Associate Judge Wesley Bogdan signed an arrest warrant for Newton Tmarsel last Nov. 2 on charges of disturbing the peace, assault with a dangerous weapon, and assault and battery for an incident back in October where he allegedly assaulted a DPS officer who was off-duty with a 2-by-2 piece of wood.
At around 5:39pm on the same day the warrant was signed, officers arrested 33-year-old Tmarsel in Garapan.
According to court documents, police received a 911 call last Oct. 24 at around 12:30am, reporting a disturbance at a bar in Garapan.
Police units responded to the scene where officers met with the caller who stated that a male individual hit an off-duty female police officer before fleeing the scene.
According to witnesses, the man hit the woman’s back with a piece of 2-by-2 lumber before throwing it toward another female and hitting her foot.
Responding officers brought the man, later identified as Tmarsel, to the Commonwealth Healthcare Corp.’s alternate care site at Kanoa Resort before he was transported to the Department of Corrections where he was booked, detained, and then released.
After a follow up investigation last Sunday, an arrest warrant was signed on Nov. 2 and Tmarsel was arrested the same day.
