69th Liberation Day festivities kick off today
The 69th Liberation Day finally kicks off today, June 27, at the Garapan Fishing Base across Kristo Rai Church along Beach Road in Garapan. The celebration will run all the way until July 6.
The 69th Liberation Day Committee would like to inform the public that it is still accepting applications for non-consumable vendors and food vendors with an alcohol license as well as parade participants.
“The plan is to bring in and allow alcohol and there will be a section to control the alcohol and have nightly entertainment as well,” Liberation committee chair Vicente Camacho said. There are 10 more booths available for all vendors.
“Vendors can also start setting up as early as 6am today,” Camacho said.
According to Camacho, this year’s theme is “Reunion of Honor: Tribute to the Mayors” since the islands just lost former mayors Prudencio Manglona and Donald Glenn P. Flores.
“We are still going to have a parade and that parade is going to be dedicated to the mayors,” Camacho told Saipan Tribune. “We might have to put the families of the late mayors on convertibles to highlight all of them.”
According to Camacho, the fees for the competitive floats are being waived.
The deadline to submit an application for parade participants, which also includes the float competition and regular floats, is this June 30.
The Liberation Day Committee is still looking for entertainers, performers, participants, food vendors, and those who plan to join this year’s 69th celebration of Liberation Day.
