The 670 Sonics XVIII prevailed in the battle of sister teams, while the Ol’Aces Real Deal had another lopsided victory in the boys U18 division of the 2018 Frank M. Diaz Memorial Youth League last Tuesday night at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium.

The 670 Sonics XVIII outclassed the 670 Sonics XVII in the first game, 45-41, while the Ol’Aces Real Deal waltzed past the 670 Sonics XVI in the second match, 104-40.

Sean Apasan scored the 670 Sonics XVIII’ last two field goals to lift his team to the 4-point win. Bryan De Guzman and Khristian Itaas also contributed in the fourth quarter for the 670 Sonics XVIII’s with the latter making 5 straight points to start the squad’s offense and the former adding a string of 3 markers. Rafael Ordonia delivered the other field goal for the 670 Sonics XVIII, which led from start to finish.

The 670 Sonics XVIII had its biggest advantage in the second canto, 24-13, thanks to the combined 11 points of Keeanu Diaz and Apasan. Diaz was then held to one field goal in the third canto, while Apasan was scoreless, allowing the 670 Sonics XVII to move within 6, 25-31, going into the fourth quarter.

Five different players hit the board for the 670 Sonics XVII in the third period to help the team stay in the game. However, the 670 Sonics XVIII gunners showed up in the fourth frame to protect their lead and take the close win.

Meanwhile, the second game was a no contest, with the league-leading and pennant champion Ol’Aces Real Deal again exploding for 100-plus points.

As expected, the Ol’Aces built an early double-digit lead against the 670 Sonics XVI, 20-7, behind the 7 points apiece of Dean Blake and K.J. Kabiriel.

N-Nes Siech, Coby Santos, and E.J. Abejo joined the scoring surge in the next three quarters to hand the Ol’Aces Real Deal a 64-point winning margin.
