670 Babes bump Sakude out of first place in CSA

  670 Babes stunned Sakude, 11-9, in Monday’s Chamolinian Softball Association-2nd Budweiser Softball League women’s division matchup held at the Capitol Hill Ballfield.

The win improved Babes’ record to 5-3, while the reigning champions Sakude (7-3) fell to second place in the standings behind Check It Out (8-2) who cut up Enamo Meta (2-8), 17-2, last Friday.

The Rookies (1-7) make up the rest of the field.

In addition, Check It Out was leading Enamo Meta, 8-6 when rain caused a suspension of the game in the fourth inning back on June 20. The final men’s pairing between Man Amigos (10-1) and Elias (5-6) was also rescheduled for a later date.

Over in the men’s division, the Warriors barely made it past 6-Pack (2-8), 12-11, last Friday and evened its record to 6-6, while fourth ranked Ur Balls (7-3) downed X-clusive (4-7), 16-8, back on June 18.

Notably, men’s Talu Fahn (2-12) endured a pair of forfeits to Berdax (7-5) and the G-Ballers (5-7) this past week, while Elias also absorbed a forfeiture to third place Gagu Eyez (9-2) last Friday.

Natibu (12-1) and Man Amigos remain ahead of the pack with Manelos (7-4), Saipal (6-6), Familia (4-8), and Managaha (0-10) rounding out the rest of the standings.

670 Babes 11, Sakude 9

Sakude’s Thelma Mizer drove in Liz Lebria in the opening frame, but 670 Babes hustled around two runs off costly errors in the bottom frame for an early, 2-1, lead.

Sakude briefly managed a 3-2 lead after chalking up a run in both the second and third innings off errors, but 670 Babes reclaimed the lead, 5-3, in the bottom of the third off an RBI single by Catalina Dela Cruz that scored Mel Benjamin and some errors. Benjamin led off the inning with a triple.

670 Babes contained Sakude again to just one run in the fourth and maintained its cushion, 6-4, in the bottom half thanks to another uncharacteristic error out in field by the reigning champs.

Sakude’s Kikki Aldan brought home Bert Camacho for another run in the fifth, but 670 Babes raised the ante in the bottom frame and jumped ahead, 11-5, off five hits. Tani Masga belted a two-run home run, Edilynn Benjamin bagged an RBI single, and Mel Benjamin an RBI double.

Then after a scoreless sixth inning, 670 Babes held Sakude to four runs in the final stand.

Notably, 670 Babes whipped around two double plays in the game.

Warriors 12, 6-Pack 11

The Warriors worked out an early 2-1 lead after the first inning thanks to a pair of RBI singles by Chris Pangelinan and Henry Reyes.

Then 6-Pack broke out to an 8-1 advantage in the top of the second off six hits. Ken Tanzawa bagged an RBI base rip, while Mel Yamit lifted a sacrifice fly that was followed by an RBI single by Art Reyes and a two-run blast by Dan Repeki.

6-Pack’s D.J. Omar belted a solo shot in the third inning, but the Warriors roared back to within a run, 8-9, in the bottom frame off five hits and some costly errors.

Joshua Garde and Sydney Kani busted RBI smashes and Fred Pangelinan airmailed a sacrifice fly.

The group held 6-Pack in the fourth and pulled in front, 11-9, in the bottom half thanks to a pair of doubles by McGary Scaliem and Darren Pua and a two-run homer from Chris Pangelinan.

Runs came at a premium after that point as 6-Pack only managed a pair of runs off errors in the sixth inning to tie the match, but Warriors Kani belted the walk-off single with one out in the last inning of regulation.

Chris Pangelinan batted 4-for-4 with three RBIs and two other runs.

Check it Out 17, Enamo Meta 2

Check It Out shot out of the gate to a promising 12-0 lead off seven hits sprinkled in between a number of errors by last year’s runner-up team.

Seven runs came in off bobbles and wild throws, however Sandy Leon Guerrero ripped an RBI double, while Hermina Kelley and Keina Rogopes bagged RBI base hits.

Later in the third inning Check It Out’s Jenelle Brel made it on and around off errors, while Connie San Nicolas drilled a two RBI single for a 15-0 margin that put the run-rule into effect.

Enamo managed a pair of runs in the top of the fourth, but Check It Out’s Brel and Jovie Omar laid them to rest in the bottom frame with a pair of RBI smashes that secured the early decision.

Leon Guerrero swung 3-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs.

Ur Balls 16, X-clusive 8

Ur Balls broke a 3-all tie from the first inning with a solo blast in the second frame.

Audie Maratita then hit another homer in the third to put the team up, 5-3, before a 3-run jack made it 8-3 in the fourth inning.

Both teams traded a pair of runs in the fifth, and although X-cl usive managed to produce some offense in the late innings, it was never able to mount a real comeback as Ur Balls piled on six runs in the seventh inning.

Ur Balls tallied 15 RBIs off 20 hits in the game.
