Mariana Islands Basketball Federation will have six categories in its inaugural 3×3 Hoopfest that will be held next month.
In the men’s division, interested teams can enter in the U16, U19, and open division, while the women’s contest has the same groups. Each squad is allowed to have a maximum of four players and registration is only $50 per team.
The first leg of the MIBF 3×3 Hoopfest will run from Sept. 5 to 9 at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium, while from Sept. 30 to Oct. 4, games will be moved to the Civic Center Basketball Court in Susupe. MIBF will only accept the first 12 teams (in each division) to register and turn in the entrance fees.
Though the 3×3 tournament has six divisions, only teams that will compete in the men’s open field will have a chance to represent the CNMI to the 2017 Pacific Mini Games in Vanuatu in December.
For more information about the 3×3 event, contact MIB officials Preston Basa at 989-2516 and Elias Rangamar at 287-6347 or NMSA staff Greg Iginoef 234-6672.
Meanwhile, the chefs de mission in the Mini Games that will run from Dec. 4 to 15 held a two-day meeting last weekend in Port Vila.
Representatives from Wallis and Futuna, Cook Islands, New Caledonia, Fiji, Samoa, Papua New Guinea, Tonga, Solomon Islands, Niue, Nauru, Tuvalu, Kiribati and the host country were updated on the catering, Athletes Villages, transportation, medical, security, venues, and the events for the competition. Chefs de mission of countries who did not make it to Vanuatu joined the group’s conference online. The officials in Vanuatu also visited the various facilities for the Mini Games and were impressed that most of them are in one big area or close to each other.
